Rebate Coupon Scam
Collecting What Your Not Owed
The following was received from one of our readers:
I have found out that my name has been used for the purpose of rebates
from many computer companies. Also, found copies of these rebates kept
in order which among them was one coupon with someone signing my name.
I have sent off all this information to the US postal inspector offices
here in Atlanta. What can I expect from the government? I have called
the inspectors office but have yet to be put in the touch with the right
person to follow up on my complaint. Also, what can happen to someone
running this kind of scam to an unknown party (such as myself)? Does the
government do a through search on these individuals to see where else
they are dabbling illegally. Say, such as the Bahamas. These are
in-laws who have done this and they are from my husbands side.
Needless, to say I am livid that someone would take the liberty to use
me to further their livelyhood. I also, need to know if my name was
forged on any of the returned rebate checks how I can find this out.
This seems to be big business for several scheming individuals.
